MU.LAB … Muzys skins

Let's start with the most recent and go backwards (scroll down for the nostalgia).

LooxLite update: MU.LAB 3.2 compatible version. You can still get LooxLite for M 3.0.

LooxLite update: The position display now works in both modes:

Finally, I am able to present a MU.LAB skin that I am happy with.

I should note that the main goal has not been to create an original and interesting alternative skin – although I think that has been achieved. If there was a less distractive, "just OK" skin, I wouldn't bother to create a new one. I know skinning as a time-consuming activity. I'm the type that looks at pixel details first and care less about the colour theme (grey is fine). But I had no choice! (sort of) – there's no way I could enjoy making music with LooxPhat.

In fact, I haven't used MU.LAB much, for other reasons: bugs put me off on firsts attempts at doing things; I've still got Muzys and my computers are pretty old; and I've been busy with other things than music making. As a consequence, my MUTOOLS skinning has been very infrequent.

Anyway, LooxLite is here and I hope it will make people happy.

The missing version

I don't know if this is of any interest now that MU.LAB 3 is out, but here is the missing 2009 version.

This is not just the MU.LAB 2 skin in the state I left it. It is an intermediate version. The synths and effects are still not skinned, and a few "plugin editor" views have flaws because of this. I wasn't sure which way to go here – but in retrospect, I think I should have released this version.

The original version

This one was put together quite in a hurry. I spent some days during one week in Sep 2008. The result is something of a compromise, since it needed to look good together with the unskinned parts.

This was a skin for LUNA, a light-weight software music studio developed by the MUTOOLS Team. LUNA was renamed to MU.LAB.

The first version was created in May 2006, the current was last modified in April 2007.

Muzys skins

Muzys is a software music studio for Windows and Mac OS which is no longer being developed or available for purchase. Computer Muzys is a restricted version of Muzys, which used to be included on a CD supplied with the Computer Music magazine. (It was then replaced by CMusic, a restricted version of LUNA – so I've heard on the web.)

A very complete skin I made in 2003. Jo renamed it to Loox_Vervex on the Muzys website. I have made some small fixes which were not present in that version.

This was actually my first skin for any application, made for a competition in the Computer Music magazine (it came in third place and I won a Muzys licence). It eventually evolved into the skin above, Vervex_Real.

The early pre-releases of LUNA had a default skin named LooxVoidex which was based on this skin.

Muzys links

There's not very much left of Muzys on the web. I discovered Muzys as a kid through the British magazine Computer Music, and I didn't follow the Muzys forum before Muzys was discontinued. You can still:
